Nine New Dwellings in Southwick
This Southwick residential development brings forward nine new family homes on the southern edge of the village. Designed as a sensitive and sustainable addition to the community, the project aims to create high-quality homes that respect the rural character of the area. A full planning application has now been submitted, with construction expected to begin in 2026.

Project Overview
The development introduces nine thoughtfully arranged homes that integrate seamlessly with their surroundings. TEA Architects developed a design strategy that responds to existing hedgerows, neighbouring homes and open countryside. This landscape-led approach helps create a well-balanced neighbourhood that supports local housing needs.

Site and Context
The site sits between established residential properties and open fields, forming a transition space between the village and the countryside. Protecting neighbour privacy, retaining important landscape features and enhancing biodiversity were key priorities. Existing hedgerows have been preserved and strengthened, while the site’s gentle slope and visibility from Frome Road influenced the final layout.

Southwick Residential Development Design Response
The nine homes are arranged around a calm shared-surface street that encourages low vehicle speeds and a strong sense of community. Homes along Frome Road help reinforce the village edge, while the remaining plots benefit from south-facing gardens and open views. Parking is contained within private driveways to maintain a clean, uncluttered streetscape.
Architecturally, the development reflects the local vernacular with the use of brick, reconstituted stone, slate and clay tiles. These materials allow the new homes to sit comfortably within their rural setting. Internally, layouts maximise natural light and create flexible, modern living spaces that open directly onto private gardens.

Sustainability and Technical Design
Sustainability is integral to this Southwick residential development. Each home incorporates high-performance insulation, efficient building fabric, low-energy lighting and Air Source Heat Pumps. High-specification glazing improves energy efficiency and year-round comfort.
The landscape strategy strengthens biodiversity by retaining existing hedgerows and adding new native planting. Drainage has been designed to work naturally with the site levels and existing infrastructure, helping manage water responsibly.

Accessibility
All nine homes meet key accessibility standards, offering level access and adaptable internal layouts. This ensures they remain suitable for a wide range of future residents.
